AFLAS® (Tetrafluoroethylene/Propylene copolymer, TFE/P) is a specialty fluoroelastomer that excels where standard FKM/Viton® fails — particularly in steam, hot water, amines, strong bases and H₂S-containing environments. It is widely used in oil & gas, chemical processing and the electrical industry.
Key Properties
- Outstanding resistance to steam, hot water and amines
- Excellent resistance to H₂S, caustics and strong bases
- Resistant to high-concentration acids
- Excellent electrical insulation properties
- Better amine resistance than standard FKM
Limitations
- Limited low-temperature performance (not below -5°C)
- Lower compression set resistance than FKM at high temperatures
- Higher cost than standard FKM
Typical Hardness
70–80 Shore A typical
Typical Applications
- Oilfield and downhole equipment (sour gas wells)
- Chemical plant valves and pumps
- Geothermal energy systems
- Steam injection systems
- Electrical cable sealing
- Amine gas treating plants
