HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is a significantly upgraded version of standard NBR, produced by hydrogenating the carbon-carbon double bonds. The result is a material with far superior heat resistance, mechanical strength and chemical resistance — particularly suited to oil & gas and automotive applications.
Key Properties
- Superior heat resistance over standard NBR (up to 150°C continuous)
- Excellent resistance to H₂S, sour gas and engine oils
- High tensile strength and abrasion resistance
- Good resistance to ozone and weathering
- Suitable for HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) downhole environments
Limitations
- Not suitable for chlorinated solvents, ketones or phosphate esters
- Higher cost than standard NBR
