Neoprene (Chloroprene Rubber, CR) was one of the first synthetic rubbers developed and remains a versatile, cost-effective choice for applications requiring flame retardancy, weather and ozone resistance. It provides moderate resistance to mineral oils and good performance in refrigerant systems.
Key Properties
- Inherently flame retardant
- Excellent ozone, UV and weathering resistance
- Good resistance to refrigerants (Freon, ammonia)
- Resistant to dilute acids, alkalis and silicone fluids
- Good flex fatigue and abrasion resistance
Limitations
- Only moderate resistance to mineral oils and fuels
- Not suitable for aromatic or chlorinated solvents
