Viton ETP (Extreme Temperature Performance) is a specialty grade of FKM fluoroelastomer engineered for applications that push beyond the limits of standard Viton grades. By incorporating optimised fluorine content and modified cure chemistry, Viton ETP maintains sealing integrity at continuous temperatures up to 200°C and offers significantly enhanced low-temperature flexibility compared to conventional FKM — remaining functional down to -20°C without becoming brittle.
Viton ETP is the material of choice when standard FKM is not quite enough and FFKM is cost-prohibitive — bridging the gap between the two for high-performance chemical and thermal sealing in oil & gas, aerospace and chemical processing.
Key Properties
- Extended high-temperature performance to 200°C continuous (vs 180°C for standard FKM)
- Improved low-temperature flexibility vs standard FKM — brittle point around -35°C
- Outstanding resistance to fuels, lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids and acids
- Very low gas permeability — suitable for gas seal applications
- Excellent resistance to concentrated mineral acids and aggressive solvents
- Good compression set resistance at elevated temperatures
- Enhanced resistance to amine-containing fluids compared to standard FKM
Advantages Over Standard FKM / Viton
- Higher peak temperature: 200°C vs 180°C continuous for standard FKM
- Better low-temp: Functional to -20°C vs -10°C for standard FKM grades
- Wider chemical window: Tolerates some amines and MEK better than base FKM
- Cost position: Significantly less expensive than FFKM while outperforming standard FKM
Limitations
- Not suitable for ketones (acetone, MEK) at high concentrations — FFKM required
- Limited resistance to amines in high concentrations — AFLAS preferred
- Higher cost than standard FKM grades
- Not recommended for steam above 150°C — EPDM or FFKM preferred
Typical Hardness
70–75 Shore A standard; 60–90 Shore A available on request
